Chiseldon Cauldrons
CHLG has been helping Wessex
Archaeology to investigate further the Cauldron site in Chiseldon.
The project is called 'Celts and Romans in North Wiltshire'. For
more information,
We have just launched an appeal for funds to have a replica made of one of the Cauldrons, which were discovered in 2004 and are currently being conserved in The British Museum - they are too fragile and important ever to return to Chiseldon. We have some money raised and we have received a generous donation, so we are well on the way to the £1500 we need. We need more! If you can help us with a donation, or would like a copy of the Cauldrons booklet (£2.50), please get in touch via our email - info@chiseldonlhg.org.uk.
About Us
Chiseldon Local History Group was founded in 1984 by a group of
people brought together by their interest in the history of this area of
Wiltshire and
their belief that this history should be recorded for future generations.
We meet on the third Wednesday of each
month with a full
programme of speakers.
We have also published a number of
books
including a Guided Walk Around Old Chiseldon. We run
Chiseldon
Museum in Butts Road displaying a wide range of material from the
Bronze Age to the present that is relevant to the area.

Our Next Meeting
Wednesday, January 18th at 7.30 pm in
the Church Hall, Butts Road, Chiseldon.
'Hadrian's Wall'. Speaker: John Winterburn - professional archaeologist and member of CLHG.
Museum Opening Times
The first and third Saturdays of each
month (April to October) from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm. The Museum is now closed for the winter (except by special request) and will re-open on Saturday, April 1st 2012. This year's special exhibitions will be 'Olympic Chiseldon' - a celebration of sport in the village - and 'Royal Chiseldon' - memories of past royal jubilees and events. We would be very interested in any photos, cuttings, recordings or other memorabilia for both these exhibitions. We copy these memorabilia and return the originals.
The Museum is in The Old Chapel,
Butts Road, Chiseldon, just off the A346, half a mile south of Junction 15
of the M4.
